Do I AI ?
AI - the buzzword for the populace who survived through all these decades. the golden goose for those who never tire jumping onto the "next big thing". the real harbinger of change amongst the many who are awestruck by its "potential". the reason for another "stress point" amongst those who are witnessing it make a mess of tasks in minutes which took days or weeks for them.
what do i even think of it? and does it even matter if i have a favourable or unfavourable opinion on it ? but as i type away past 1 30 at night, i am forced to make an entry in this blog which nobody reads , which is a good thing . coming to the question which hit my head - is ai seeking singularity or are we inadvertently designing ai systems assuming singularity is the end goal of ai ? are we being disillusioned by our own biases ? has anybody ever experienced singularity ? and my biggest questions is - why are we in search of singularity ?
I'm currently so hallucinated ( no pun ) by what we are chasing ! people can be optimistic, overawed, pessimistic to the hilt if you throw any innovation at them. we have got lots of flavours of people . so that doesn't concern me. you got social media ruling the roost since a decade now and the way it is set up right now it is just a giant megaphone with the ones having the biggest ones making the loudest noise. what concerns me is what people who pioneered in such fields or in science forecasted ? turing ? hawking ?
i want to make one point pretty clear here. i find people who say ai wont spell doom on humanity to be extremely short sighted. i do not know how many people of influence gloss over its dangers and if they have any ulterior motives. what makes ai a threat is not the ai itself but the dexterity of the creator of ai itself - the human mind , which is why I ask again - why are we chasing singularity ? what are we trying to achieve or prove ? just this other day i watch somebody using the plain old color detection to build a robotic shooting gun for the construction industry. somebody one day invented controlled nuclear reaction just to quench their thirst for knowledge and rest is history. somebody dropped it to puff out life from innocents who were going to school, having breakfast , maybe planning for their future, maybe making love... all lost within seconds and years to come.
and in the midst of all the din of "do you (use) ai ?", is the human just "intelligence" ? are we ? No ! absolutely not. several may despise the term "consciousness" but that doesn't change "reality". we are conscious. we definitely are. so are we trying to build "conscious singular beings" ? have we gained the confidence already that we have understood the human race in totality ? why then we witness stupid human behaviour time and again irrespective of where they reside or what position they hold in the social hierarchy ? or are we trying to homogenise societies by just "hypnotising systems" ?
people are just awed by seeing machines guess the next word they would type ! what a bummer for the human race ! and should i even begin to "rant" about all the ways current ai models are being misused ! to nudify images ? wow, the singularity of nudity is here where , surprise, everybody looks the same blob of flesh ! i do not want to touch upon LLMs and image generation or video generation or code generation using language models.
instead the bigger question still lurks - humans are not just intelligence , why are we then building systems which assume this is all the humans need or want ? do humans "feel better or worse" by just words thrown at them ? not at all, to some extent it does, but then humans are capable of gauging actions, intent, effort and much more before framing opinions about a situation or person. are we driving not just systems towards homogenisation or the human populace too ? i have so much more to write ...
